About Scramble

The Middle of Nowhere

What is Scramble DAT?

Scramble DAT is a "brochure" version of Scramble, designed to allow new visitors to quickly preview the contents of the main site. It replaces our "micro blog" on tumblr and was originally designed to run on the DAT network protocol (thus its name) via the Beaker Browser. This open network experiment has since morphed into the AT protocol under Bluesky - we're keeping an eye on its development.

Who are Scramble?

Scramble is a small network of committed, self-reliant, long distance solo trekkers / scramblers located around the globe. The only difference from traditional scramblers is that we tend to carry heavier packs when climbing and that any climbs are more a means to an end (part of the trek) rather than an end in itself. Carrying all your supplies allows one the freedom to take on less accessible and more interesting routes without being tethered to "civilisation".

We test and rate outdoor gear, running two "official" kit tests per year in the UK (home of the editor), a winter test in February and a summer test in August. These are a minimum of 1 week in duration (living outdoors continuously) and cover 15+ miles per day (with at least 1 week’s food supplies) over mountainous terrain. Items that excel during these tests are rated and reviewed and remain part of our kit (and thus are continuously under review) unless substituted for an alternative item.

We also have a store on a platform called SYSTEM, those items that have impressed us the most are, where possible, made available in our store. So we're a hybrid: half review site and half shop. Our goal is to offer a collection of tough, thoroughly tested, high quality clothing and equipment to cater for multi-day / multi-week, long distance treks over challenging terrain.

You can learn more or contact us via our main site: www.scramblekit.uk.
Or visit our shop on SYSTEM.
